Q: Describe your experiences in the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline.
Allison:
“I have been involved in the High Performance program for a significant amount of time. It has always been an enjoyable experience as I get to play with girls from various clubs and colleges. The opportunity to learn new techniques and strategies while having fun with talented individuals is incredibly rewarding.”
Q: You enrolled at Auburn a semester early. How has that transition been, and what was it like to forgo your final club season?
Allison:
“At first, it was a bit sad to realize I wouldn’t be playing club volleyball in my final season. However, I am thrilled that I chose to enroll early because it allowed me to acclimate to everything before the fall season began. It is a unique situation being the only college player on the team (WJNT), but I don’t view it as a hindrance.”
Q: What are some of the strengths of the Women’s Junior National Team, which combines athletes from different stages of the pipeline?
Allison:
“This team has a strong connection. Many of us have discussed this aspect, and it has fostered a sense of unity. Unlike last year, where we had to compete for positions, we started this year already as a team. We have a diverse range of hitters, passers, and other talented players.”
Q: How does not having to go through tryouts and solely focusing on preparing for the NORCECA U20 Championship benefit the team?
Allison:
“The difference is significant. Without the stress of tryouts, we can concentrate on fine-tuning our techniques instead of competing against each other for a spot. Our approach to training has shifted, allowing us to work together more seamlessly and efficiently.”
Q: You have experience as both an opposite hitter and a setter. Do you have a preference?
Allison:
“I honestly enjoy both roles. Scoring points through hitting is exhilarating, while setting up my teammates for successful attacks brings me equal joy. I don’t have a preference because I find both aspects of the game incredibly fun.”
Q: What are your aspirations in volleyball?
Allison:
“I hope to continue playing volleyball after college and potentially represent the National Team. Eventually, when my body can no longer withstand the demands of the sport, I aspire to become a college coach. Volleyball has been a passion of mine, and being able to teach others and share my experiences would be fulfilling.”
Q: Who are some of your role models in the sport?
Allison:
“I haven’t given much thought to specific role models, but growing up in the Big Ten, I always admired players like Lauren Carlini in the setter position.”
