USAV’s Women’s U20 Programs: Preparing for a Stellar Season in 2020

USA Volleyball is gearing up for an exciting season with the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team. From tryouts to coaching selections and future training camps, everything is in motion to ensure the team’s success.

Introducing the Coaching Staff

Dan Fisher, head coach at the University of Pittsburgh, has been chosen as the head coach for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team. Under his guidance, the team will be competing at the 2020 NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship in Edmonton, Canada from May 10-17. Assisting Fisher are Indiana University Assistant Coach Krista Vansant and UCLA Associate Head Coach Brad Keller. UCF’s director of operations, TJ Read, will be the technical coordinator.

A World of Opportunities

The chance to represent the country and be a part of USA Volleyball is a tremendous honor, according to Dan Fisher. He is grateful for the opportunity to learn from his staff and to immerse himself in high-level volleyball. The athletes, too, will gain invaluable experience by competing on the international stage and opening doors for future opportunities with Team USA.

The NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship is a qualification event for the 2021 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship. This means that athletes from the U.S. Girls Youth National Team, who won the 2019 FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship, have now moved up to the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team program.

Building a Solid Foundation

Krista Vansant, who previously played for the U.S. Women’s National Team before transitioning to coaching, is excited about the chance to contribute to the WJNT program. Reflecting on her own experience as a player, Vansant believes that training and competing at the international level played a crucial role in her growth. She is eager to share these valuable lessons with the athletes on the team.
