Men’s College Roundup for Jan. 26

NCAA Division I/II

No. 1 Ohio State

The Buckeyes have claimed the top spot in the rankings after impressive wins against previous No. 1 UCLA and No. 13 USC. However, they suffered their first loss of the season to No. 9 Penn State. Ohio State is led by players like Daniel Hurley, Pen Putnam, and Shane Wetzel, who have showcased their skills on both the national and international stage.

No. 2 UCLA

No. 3 Long Beach State

Long Beach State continues to assert their dominance with a 2-0 record in the NJIT Tournament. They are led by standout players like Clarke Godbold and Lazar Bouchkov. The team has upcoming matches against Pepperdine and CUI.

No. 4 Hawaii

The Rainbow Warriors started the season strong with a 3-1 victory against Purdue Fort Wayne. Alaka’i Todd and Tread Rosenthal have been instrumental in Hawaii’s success, and they will face Purdue Fort Wayne once again before playing Ball State.

No. 5 Grand Canyon

NCAA Division III

No. 1 Wentworth

No. 2 Stevens

Stevens suffered their first loss of the season against Wentworth but bounced back with wins against MIT and Baruch. They will participate in the Messiah Invitational, with matches against Juniata and Lancaster Bible.

No. 3 Cal Lutheran

Cal Lutheran maintains a strong presence in the top 3 with wins against Vassar, Carthage, and NYU. Players like Jordan Cooper and Taylor Marks have showcased their skills, with Marks being named the AVCA DIII Player of the Week. They have upcoming matches against North Central, Dominican, and Loras.

No. 4 Southern Virginia

The Knights are off to an impressive 5-0 start, with victories against Lees-McRae and Roanoke. Christian Sheaffer and Tyler Sheaffer have been essential contributors to the team’s success. They will face Illinois Institute of Technology before their break until February 3rd.

No. 5 St. John Fisher

St. John Fisher rounds out the top 5 with a perfect 6-0 record. Jake Baker and Gavin Newman have been standout players for the Cardinals. They will have matches against Baldwin Wallace and Penn State Behrend.
