USAV Names U.S. Girls Youth National Training Team

USA Volleyball is excited to introduce the 24-player U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team (GYNTT) for the 2016 season. This talented group comprises three liberos, seven middles, ten outside hitters/opposites, and four setters. These young athletes have been selected based on their exceptional skills and dedication to the sport.

Building a Strong Team

The GYNTT includes liberos Mackenzie Cole, Kenzie Knuckles, and Brooke Nuneviller. The middles are Holly Campbell, Sophia Dorsch-Summers, Serena Gray, Kaitlyn Hord, Kendall Kipp, Molly Phillips, and McKenna Vicini. The outside hitters/opposites are Caitlin Baird, Logan Eggleston, Skylar Fields, Mia Grunze, Allison Martinez, Kalen Owes, Taylor Rowland, Brooklyn Schirmer, Haley Warner, and Riley Zuhn. The setters selected for the team are Erin O’Leary, Ella Powell, Kylie Robinson, and Melani Shaffmaster.

Expert Coaching Staff

The U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team will be led by head coach Erin Virtue, associate head coach at Northwestern University. Stacy Sykora, a seasoned coach from USA Volleyball, will serve as an assistant coach, alongside technical coordinator Jared Hazel. The coaching staff will soon welcome a second assistant coach to complete the team.

Training and Competitions

The GYNTT will undergo intensive training in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from July 11 to July 24. The final 12-player roster for the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team (GYNT) will be selected on July 19. Following this, the team, along with alternates, will showcase their skills at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships held in Fort Lauderdale from July 19 to July 23. The next leg of their journey will take them to Puerto Rico to compete in the NORCECA Women’s U18 Continental Championship, tentatively scheduled for August 26 to September 5.
