Jon Lee: A True Leader in USA Volleyball

Jon Lee has been an integral part of USA Volleyball’s leadership, both at the national and regional levels. His dedication to the sport and commitment to athlete safety have earned him the prestigious 2020 Harold T. Friermood “Frier” Award, the highest honor bestowed by USA Volleyball for lifetime achievements. On May 20, 2020, Jon Lee will be inducted into the USA Volleyball Hall of Fame in Minneapolis, along with other notable figures in the volleyball community.

A Passionate Volunteer

As a lawyer by profession, Jon Lee has utilized his skills to serve the Evergreen Region Volleyball Association (ERVA) and USA Volleyball since 1989. During his tenure as the ERVA ethics and compliance officer from 1993 to 1996, Lee established a due process procedure that set the standard for other regions. From 1996 to 2008, he held the position of Evergreen Region commissioner, where he introduced and updated the Regional Due Process procedure, which has become a template for several other regions.

Making an Impact

Jon Lee’s leadership extends beyond the regional level. He played a vital role on the USA Volleyball Board of Directors from 2000 to 2014, serving as the vice president of the Regional Operations Division. During this time, he drafted and updated the current USAV redistricting policy, introduced the USAV background screening policy, and implemented due process at national events. Additionally, Lee spearheaded the Event Arbitrator program as its current chair. Today, he continues to chair both corporate and ERVA ethics and eligibility committees.

Lee has been instrumental in shaping the sport of volleyball. He was involved in the establishment of the Pacific Northwest Junior Girls’ Championship Qualifier and played a crucial role in implementing the background screening process in the region, which later became a national policy. Lee also contributed to the creation of the Puget Sound Volleyball Region. His expertise and dedication have left a lasting impact on the volleyball community.
