Joe Campbell – A Dedicated Figure in USA Volleyball

From the moment Joe Campbell first took his place on the volleyball referee stand in 1979, he developed a deep love for the game. Surprisingly, Joe had never followed volleyball before that moment, as he had grown up as a football and baseball fan. It was during his time in the U.S. Air Force in Japan when strangers introduced him to volleyball, setting in motion a remarkable journey that would span four decades.

Throughout his military career, which took him from Japan to Las Vegas, Conroe and San Antonio in Texas, and even Korea, Joe continued to referee matches, despite not yet being officially certified. It wasn’t until 1990 that he earned his USA Volleyball provisional referee rating, followed by regional referee status in 1992, junior national referee in 1995, national referee in 1999, and national scorer in 2000.
