Florida Region of USA Volleyball Receives Donation to Support USAV Beach ParaVolley

The Florida Region of USA Volleyball is excited to announce a generous $100,000 private donation from the Norelli Family Foundation. This donation will go towards supporting the USAV Beach ParaVolley (BPV) programming at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Florida for the 2021-2024 quad. In addition, Hickory Point Beach will become a National Training Site for the USA Volleyball BPV program.

Beach ParaVolley is an emerging sport recognized by World ParaVolley (WPV) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The sport consists of three member teams and operates within the Paralympic classification system. In 2019, USA Volleyball became the National Federation for the sport of BPV in the United States.

The inaugural USA BPV teams made a strong impression at the WPV World Championships in Pingtan, China in 2019, with the U.S. men winning the gold medal and the U.S. women taking silver in their first international competition. These impressive performances have earned the U.S. teams the No. 1 and No. 2 BPV world rankings, respectively.

Jamie Davis, the President and CEO of USA Volleyball, expressed the organization’s commitment to the growth of Beach ParaVolley worldwide. As the U.S. National Federation for BPV, USA Volleyball aims to provide state-of-the-art facilities where athletes can train and pursue their dreams of winning gold. The organization is grateful for the support of the Florida Region and the Norelli Family Foundation in helping achieve these goals.

The Norelli Family Foundation, which has been supporting the Florida Region of USA Volleyball’s scholarship program since 2015, will provide the grant money for the USAV Beach ParaVolley program. The foundation has generously provided nearly $300,000 in scholarship funds since partnering with the Florida Region.

Joe Norelli, President of the Norelli Family Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for supporting the BPV program and witnessing the dedication and determination of the athletes during the Florida Pro Best of the Beach event in November 2020. With the exceptional venue of Hickory Point Beach and additional program funding, Norelli looks forward to seeing Team USA become a world leader in the sport.

Steve Bishop, President of the Florida Region, shared his excitement about the impact of this donation on Hickory Point Beach and the sport of volleyball. He believes that this support will open doors for hosting international beach volleyball events as BPV aims to be considered for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Bishop looks forward to more exciting news and opportunities that may arise in the future.
