Walker Hired as Men’s Sitting Team Head Coach

USA Volleyball has announced the appointment of Greg Walker as the head coach for the U.S. Men’s Sitting Volleyball Team. This comes as part of a larger restructuring of the team’s coaching staff, with Joe Skinner taking on the role of U.S. Sitting Team Program training coach and men’s assistant coach.

Walker’s involvement with the U.S. Men’s Sitting Team dates back to 2013 when he first served as head coach for the team in an exhibition at the Defi Sportif in Montreal, Canada. Since then, he has been an assistant coach at both the 2014 ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championship and the 2015 ParaPan American Games in Toronto, where the team secured a spot in the 2016 Paralympic Games by clinching the silver medal.

Expressing his excitement for the new role, Walker said, “I am very familiar with this team and the support staff as I have been able to be on staff for the last quad. I am excited to be able to continue the journey we all started a few years back and I know I am extremely excited to see the team at the end of the month at our monthly training camp in this new role.”

He brings a wealth of knowledge and a very high work ethic to the team. I look forward to Greg’s leadership during this Paralympic year.”

It is worth noting that Walker also serves as the head men’s volleyball coach at Sacred Heart University, a Division I university in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Despite his commitments to the university, he will continue his role with the U.S. Men’s Sitting Team. In the meantime, Skinner will be responsible for the daily training duties of the program’s resident athletes, effective February 1.

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, Walker said, “Being an assistant coach for the program the last few years has been an incredible opportunity, and I am very humbled and honored as well as excited to be able to take on this new opportunity with USA Volleyball.”

Greg Walker’s coaching experience extends beyond his involvement with the U.S. Men’s Sitting Team. He previously served as the head men’s coach at Alderson Broaddus University, leading the team to a 21-6 overall record and 7-4 mark in NCAA competition. Additionally, he has worked as a women’s assistant coach at Mississippi State University, guiding players who received AVCA All-American Honorable Mention recognition.

Walker’s credentials include USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) Level III and a bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Kinesiology and Sport Coaching.
