USAV Announces 2016 Men’s Junior National Team Roster

After the success of the U.S. in the 2014 NORCECA U19 Continental Championship, the 2016 U.S. Men’s Junior National Team is ready to compete for another title. Let’s take a closer look at the talented individuals who will represent their country once again.

Introducing the Team

The 2016 U.S. Men’s Junior National Team consists of Joshua Tuaniga, Jordan Ewert, Scott Stadick, Joe Worsley, George Huhmann, Kyle Ensing, Michael Wexter, Reese Devilbiss, Jack Cole, Matt Douglas, Austin Matautia, and Dylan Missry. They will compete in the NORCECA U21 Continental Championship in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada from July 3-11.

A Promising Lineup

Head Coach Jay Hosack is thrilled with the team’s potential. He praises their hard work and dedication, emphasizing their ability to keep the ball in play. The team’s size is impressive, with both big and small players possessing powerful arms.

The outside hitters for the team are Devilbiss, Matautia, and Missry, while Ensing and Wexter have been selected as opposite hitters. The middle blockers are Huhmann, Stadick, and Cole, and Tuaniga and Worsley will be the setters. Douglas will anchor the defense as the libero.

Past Success and Unity

Several players on the team have previously played together on the 2015 Boys’ Youth National Team, finishing seventh at the FIVB U19 World Championships. The mix of experienced teammates and new additions creates a strong sense of camaraderie. Coach Hosack believes that the team’s representation from all over the country speaks volumes about the quality of boys’ club programs and the growing caliber of boys’ volleyball across the nation.

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Jay Hosack, from George Mason University, leads the team. Assisting him are Jonah Carson, a coach at Mountain View Volleyball Club, and Matt McCarthy, the associate head coach for Lewis University’s men’s volleyball team. Virginia Pham, a former graduate assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University, will serve as the team’s statistician.

A: The selected athletes were chosen from the 19-man Men’s Junior Training Team roster, which was named after nationwide tryouts held from January through March.
