College National Teams Set to Compete in World University Games

The U.S. Men’s and Women’s Collegiate National Teams are gearing up to participate in the 30th Summer Universiade, commonly known as the World University Games. This prestigious event will take place in Naples, Italy, starting on July 3, 2019. The volleyball tournaments will begin on July 5, promising thrilling matches and intense competition.

The U.S. Men’s Journey Begins

The U.S. Men’s Collegiate National Team – World University Games (MCNT – WUG) is all set to kick off their campaign. Their first match will be against South Korea on July 5 at 5:30 p.m. local time. They will also face tough opponents such as China, Russia, and Portugal in their pool play. The playoff rounds will commence on July 11, adding to the excitement and suspense of the tournament.

This year, twenty men’s teams will compete in the World University Games, divided into four pools. The top two teams from each group will advance to the championship playoff bracket, while the remaining teams will compete in the placement brackets. Prominent teams like Iran, Russia, and Japan, who clinched medals in the previous edition, are determined to defend their positions on the podium.

The U.S. Women’s Quest for Glory

The U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team – World University Games (WCNT – WUG) will also commence their journey on July 5. Their first match will be against the host nation, Italy, at 8 p.m. local time. Switzerland and Japan will be their next opponents in the pool play, which concludes on July 7. The women’s tournament will consist of sixteen teams, divided into four pools, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the championship bracket.

Similar to the men’s tournament, the 2017 medalists Russia, Japan, and Ukraine will return to the Summer Universiade, aiming to secure their positions on the podium once again.

A Unique Setting for the Volleyball Tournaments

Although Naples is the official host city of the World University Games, the volleyball matches will be held in various locations in the southern region of Italy. The women’s pool matches will take place in Eboli, while the men’s matches will be played in Eboli, Ariano Irpino, and Benevento. These picturesque venues will add to the charm and significance of the tournament, creating an unforgettable experience for both athletes and spectators.
